Unclaimed Debts, Belle/Rumpelstiltskin

Forever, she'd said, she'd agreed, a deal struck a lifetime ago and a world away.

And he wanted to collect.

Every time he saw Belle, walking down one of Storybrooke's streets, a bouquet in her arms, reading a book on a chilly bench, speaking carefully with Sheriff Swan, he wanted to approach her, wanted to lean in just a touch too close, and tell her that she belonged to him.

It didn't matter if he'd tossed her away because he'd been too much of a coward to keep her; it didn't matter that she likely didn't remember him at all, much less the bargain that had saved her family.

She was his. She was his, and he wanted nothing more than to take her home with him, take her to his bed, take, take, take.

But he didn't. He didn't and he wouldn't because as it turned out, there was a craven scrap of his old self hidden deep, the faintest ghost of the man who had done dark, desperate things to keep his son safe. After that, keeping Belle safe was easy– he just had to keep her away from him. He wanted Belle like a drowning man wanted air; he wanted her happiness and safety just a smidgeon more than that. And if there is one thing he knew, it was that he had no skill at making Belle either happy or safe.

This was beautiful poetic emo kink. And quite honestly, I could see this as the truest version of this pairing on the show. I think he would have self-hate or self-awareness as it is to think he'd take too far. And it's so sad but one of the better executions--and insight-- of a love that stays far away.
